Simmer field owes its origin probably the men of the monastery Hirsau. The town was first mentioned in 1100 as " Sigmaresfeld " in connection with a Count Sigmar. In 1303 he is called " Sigmarsvelt ". Who was this Sigmar, from which the place name is derived not say too much about today.

About 1100 Abbot William lived in Hirsau, owes the Simmersfeld probably the genesis of his old church. She was built in the simplest form of the Romanesque style and was demolished in 1886 due to disrepair. From 1886-89 the present St. John's Church was built on the same site, with the peculiar chancel of the old building has been retained ( in April 1945, in particular the tower of the church was badly damaged by fire ). The oldest men of the area were the vassals of the empire, the Nogoldgrafen, the Counts of Tübingen. In 1240 Simmer field Altensteig, Haiterbach and wild mountain Bulach came to the Hohenberger. In the time of tübingischen supremacy probably falls also the foundation of the castle Schilteck, which stood near the plate mill in Schnaitbachtal.

After the Lords of Hohenberg, Hugo von Berneck and Württemberg in 1393 came the rule Altensteig to the Margrave of Baden. Beuren, Ettmannsweiler and simmer field were badisch for 200 years, until on 20 December 1603, a purchase came about after much back and forth, who brought the rule Altensteig, including Simmer field belonged to Württemberg.

In February 1826 Simmer field received from the Royal. Württ. government permission in spring and autumn each hold a market, the markets are still held today.

The other districts originated either as Waldhufen villages or later scattered settlements on cleared areas.

The church today Simmer field was re- formed on 1 January 1975 by the Association of Municipalities Simmer field Aichhalten, Beuren, Ettmannsweiler and Fünfbronn.
