Simon Kick

Simon Kick ( * 1603 in Delft, † before 26 September 1652 in Amsterdam, actually Simon Willemsz kick, erroneous name. Kick, Jan; Cicke, J. ) was a Dutch painter.

Life

Simon Kick was the son of a product originating in Amsterdam lacquer worker who lived in Delft. Even before 1624 he moved to Amsterdam, where his presence for the years 1631, 1633, 1643, 1646, 1647, 1651, and 1652 is evidenced by certificates. About his education is not known, but let his earliest works, the portrait studies in Dayton and Amsterdam, which are dated to the years 1637 and 1639, suggests an influence by Rembrandt. At the same time he painted at this time also his first guardroom scenes for which he is especially famous. He joins in the circle of genre painters, which include Dirck Hals, Jacob Duck, Pieter Codde and especially Willem Duyster. The latter over he was especially deeply connected because he married on September 5, 1631 his sister Christina ( Stijntje ) Duyster. The wedding took place on the same day on which Willem Duyster married Simon Kicks sister Margrieta. His son Cornelis also learned the trade of a painter. Although known by Simon Kick Still no life, but it can be assumed that he was the teacher of his son.

Simon kick was buried on September 26, 1652 in Amsterdam.
