Simona Amânar

Simona " Simi " Amânar ( born October 7, 1979 in Constanta, Constanta county ) is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast. She was three time Olympic gold medalist.

Amânar began at the age of six with gymnastics. In 1994 she helped with to win the team title for Romania in the European and World Championships.

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, she was Olympic champion at the horse jump. At the bottom, she won the silver medal in the individual all-around and she was third. With the Romanian team, she won a bronze medal. Four years later at the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, she finally won the all-around with the Romanian team, as well as in the individual competition after their teammate Andreea Răducan was deprived of the all-around gold medal because of doping. Another bronze medal there for them on the ground.

Shortly after the Sydney Games, she announced her resignation. She married on 9 March 2002 in Timisoara Cosmin Tabara, a lawyer, in August 2002, came to her son. 2007 Simona Amânar was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Today she lives in Timişoara, is Vice President of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and teaches at the West University of Timisoara.
