The Sinan Erdem Dome ( Turkish Sinan Erdem Spor Salonu ) is a multi-purpose hall in the district Bakırkoy the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul. The arena was originally intended to serve as a sports venue in a possible hosting of the Olympic Games in Istanbul. Currently, in addition to use of the Turkish national basketball team, the two Istanbul Anadolu Efes Basketball Teams SK and Beşiktaş Milangaz the hall. The third club Fenerbahçe Ülker will relocate to the completion in 2011 into the new, Fenerbahçe Ülker Sports Arena own with about 13,800 seats.
Construction and completion
Although it was started with the construction of the hall in 1993, this is not completed until the end of 2009. The unsuccessful bid for the hosting of the Olympic Games in Istanbul, financing difficulties and the fact that in Istanbul already has a large sports arena ( Abdi İpekçi Arena) is meant that the building was indeed completed from the outside for the most part, the interior construction was still not had come over early construction phase addition. The maximum capacity is ( at concerts ) around the 22,500 seats. For sports events, there are approximately 16,500 seats. The hall is thus the largest in Turkey and the third largest in Europe.
Events
The first major event in the hall was the men's basketball World Cup 2010; which the U.S. won in the final against the hosts Turkey with 81:64. From 12th to 18th September, the Sinan Erdem Dome hosted the Wrestling World Championships 2011. Late October was the Tennis WTA Championships 2011 were played in the Dome. In the final, the Czech Petra Kvitová, Wimbledon champion in 2011, defeated Wiktoryja Azarenka of Belarus in the final with 7:5, 4:6, 6:3. The season finale of tennis women in 2012 and 2013 held in Istanbul hall. In addition, the Short Course World Championships 2012 Fina take place until 16 December of 12.
