2011–12 Euroleague

The 2011/12 season was the 12th season of the ULEB Euro League ( officially Turkish Airlines Euro League), the most important club competition in European basketball. Qualifying began on 29 September 2011 and ended on 2 October of the same year, the main round began on 19 October 2011 and ended with the Final Four from 11 to 13 May 2012 at the Sinan Erdem Dome to Istanbul.

Mode

Of the 24 participating in the Euro League teams are 22 directly qualified for the group stage, two further participation will qualify in an additional qualifying round. Twelve of the directly qualified teams are in possession of a long-term awarded A license, eight teams qualified through their placement in national or supranational leagues in the preseason and were limited to the 2011/ 12 B- license. About winning the Euro Cup in the previous year, a further limited to those season C license was awarded. Since due to the poor placement in the national competition a club the A license has been revoked, a wildcard was awarded beyond. For the qualifying round, 16 places were awarded. 13 of these starting positions were again awarded on the placement in national or supranational leagues in the preseason, the remaining three due to the award of a wildcard. In qualifying retired associations be part of the Eurocup 2011/12.

The 24 teams were divided into four groups of six teams, each team one home and away game contests against any other team. The top four teams from each group will be allocated in the four groups in the second group phase, in which each also denies each team a home and away game against every other team. The seedings for the draw for the second group stage corresponded to the rankings in the first round, with teams from the same preliminary group can not meet each other again. The top ranked two teams in the second group stage qualify for the knockout stage, which will be played in best- of-five - mode. The asserts itself teams will qualify for the Final Four tournament in Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, where the semi-final and final matches and the game will be played for the third place. These games are simple all-in - games.

A total of 16 teams from 13 countries entered the competition at two places in the main round.

Quarterfinals

In one mode, " Best-of -Five", the remaining eight teams competed in four team matches against each other. The group winners from the second phase enjoyed attend a possibly needed fifth playoff home advantage. The four teams that decided these duels for themselves, qualified for the Final Four tournament.

Final Four

In a tournament, which was held between the 11th and 13th May 2012 at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, were ever two teams in the semi-finals against each other. The winners qualified for the finals, which spawned the winner of the ULEB Euro League.

The semi-finals were held on May 11, 2012.

3rd Place Match

The 3rd place match took place on 13 May.

Final

The finals took place on 13 May 2012.

Awards

After the winner topscorer Trophy had already been decided at an early stage, the awards were announced as a " Rising Star " and as the best defender in mid-April. During the Final Four weekend in Istanbul took place on Saturday, May 12, during the awards ceremony then the other awards to the Final Four MVP.
