Skarnsund

The Skarnsund Bridge (Norwegian Skarnsundbrua ) is a road bridge over the Skarnsund in Norway, which connects the Beitstadfjord said inner part of the Trondheim fjord with its outer part. The Skarnsund Bridge leads the provincial road 755 with a clear height of 45 m above the Skarnsund and thereby connects the village Straumen in the community Inderoy, province of Nord-Trøndelag with the place Mosvik in the former municipality Mosvik, which now belongs to Inderoy.

Description

The Skarnsund Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with two lanes and a pedestrian and bike path on the south side. She was at its opening in 1991, the cable-stayed bridge with the longest span in the world and still has the longest span of all cable-stayed bridges with a concrete bridge deck.

Her two A-shaped pylons of reinforced concrete are a few meters from the shore and overhanging the water level to 152 m. The stems of the pylons are connected to the water level and directly below the bridge deck by cross bars together and stiffened.

The bridge deck consists of a 13 m wide, continuous box girder prestressed concrete, which has a profile in the form of a very flat, standing on the top of the triangle, under the cover are two slanted boards placed that meet in the center under the cover plate. The design height of the bridge deck is only 2.15 m.

The Skarnsund bridge has a span of 530 m between the pylons. The outside of the pylons spanned by the stay cables of the bridge deck sections are each 190 m long, but these are only the first 109 m only suspended on the ropes. This is followed by four disc-like pillars at intervals of 27 m, which support the bridge deck and anchor at the same time against the force exerted by the cable stays train, eg the caused by traffic loads that move across the main span. At the western end of a 80 m long girder bridge connects on three pillars connecting the bridge deck in a wide arc with the road on the high banks. On the eastern shore just 20 meters from the last guying be bridged to the road.

History

The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Johs. Holt planned, built 1889-1991 by Aker and opened by King Harald V on 19 December 1991. Since 2008 she is a listed building.
