Slint

Slint is a post-rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, which emerged from the band Squirrel Bait 1985. After two albums, the band broke up in 1991, but left a lasting impression, especially in the post-rock scene.

History

Slints first album Tweez was recorded in 1987 under the production of Steve Albini, but published in 1989 under obscure circumstances on the label Jennifer Hartman Records. After the recording of Tweez bassist Ethan Buckler has been replaced by Todd Bashear. In 1991 he was Spider country, which was released on Touch and Go Records, and in 1990 was produced by Brian Paulson. It got very good reviews and is now considered a seminal album. The impact was so great that it is also referred to as the first true post-rock album that brought a new wave of bands on the road, trying to distance themselves while maintaining the underlying ethics of the full aggression of hardcore punk. The cover of Spider country comes from a series of images, the shot of which also came from Louisville singer-songwriter Will Oldham with the band. Spider country culminates in the baleful "Good Morning, Captain ", probably the most recognized piece of tape (later the song appeared on the soundtrack of the film Kids by Larry Clark, but did not in the movie ). After the release of Spider country, the band split. 1993 Tweez was again placed on Touch and Go Records. Finally, a brief untitled EP was released in 1994, which actually started in 1989 and as a 12 " single on Jennifer Hartman was scheduled Records. Copies of original Tweez already included an announcement of the 12". Since Slint but still signed before loading at Touch and Go, the master tapes were retained. The 12 " contains the previously unreleased " Glenn " and a reinterpretation of" Rhoda "from Tweez.

The members of Slint played in various bands since then. David Pajo currently occurs under the name PAJO and also plays bass in the New York street metal band Early Man. Furthermore, Pajo has participated in Tortoise, Palace, and the short-lived rock band Zwan ( with Billy Corgan frontman ) with. Brian McMahan in 1994 founded The For Carnation and also played at Palace. Britt Walford played drums in Evergreen and in the Breeders on the album Pod under the pseudonym Shannon Doughton and as Mike Hunt on the Safari EP. Ethan Buckler was formed in 1989 the band King Kong, with its 7 " Movie Star 's line-up consisted of the members of Slint.

Almost 15 years after the separation, Brian McMahan, David Pajo and Britt Walford found reunited in the All Tomorrow 's Parties Festival ( ATP) in Camber Sands to curate England and to headline, whereupon the fastest sellout of tickets in the festival's history occurred. Also in 2005, Slint played some shows in the U.S. and Europe. Although the reunion should be only for a short time, the band Spider country grouped again in 2007 to their genre - defining work in full length on the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, in London as part of the ATP Do not Look Back series, as well as to some other dates in the U.S. and Europe to play ( on the Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival, in the Showbox in Seattle, and at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood ). Besides Spider country and the Slint EP, the band also played a new song called " King's Approach", which was interpreted as evidence for a full-time reunion.
