Smogorzów, Opole Voivodeship
Smogorzów ( German Schmograu ) is a city in Silesia, Poland. It is located eight kilometers north of the city Namyslów ( Namslau ) and is a part of the community Namyslów in powiat Namysłowski, Opole Voivodeship.
History
The first written mention of the four kilometers east of the pasture near the border of the Duchy of Opole with Wielkopolska village located Smogorwicz dates back to 1288th old chronicles, according to the site itself is much older. Much earlier to have been Smogerow seat of the Silesian diocese. In his Chronica principum Poloniae (1382-1385) wrote the canon of Peter Pitschen from Brieg, Schmograu had been since 965 the seat of the Silesian bishops and this was in 1041 after Ritschen and been laid only in 1051 to Breslau. The chronicler has identified a five bishops, whose seat was said to be in Schmograu.
As a safe time of the creation of the diocese of Breslau as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Gniezno applies, however, March 15, 1000. Due to the heath uprisings of 1037-1038 the remote village Schmograu was probably escape quarters of the bishop, who already in 1041 the castle safer Ritschen made to his seat.
By insurrection and war all church structures were wiped out in Silesia, it also probably led to the creation of legends from the first bishopric in Schmograu by Jan Dlugosz in the middle of the 15th century in his Annales seu Cronicae incliti Regni Poloniae further led.
