Technology

The railcars were procured in two series. The first series includes the railcar Z 5301-5361, the second series of the railcar Z 5362-5445.

Since the car body is made of stainless inox steel for a license of the American Budd Company and no further painting is required, the base color is silver. Only on the front end is located between the two lower lights an orange bar for better visibility.

From the mid- 1960s to 1978, some vehicles were equipped with improved bogies to reach a top speed of 140 km / hr. These were used for express trains between Paris -Gare d' Orsay and Orléans, which thus needed only 90 minutes driving time.

Accidents

Several railcar sets had to be discarded because they had accidents or burned out. Two of these trains were involved in the accident on 27 June 1988 at the Paris Gare de Lyon train station.

Cars similar

The DC motor coach of the 5300 series Z series form a family with the similar designed for 25 kV AC railcars of Class Z 6100. In the Luxembourg State Railways ( CFL) until December 2005, six in the design similar, but only two-piece AC motor coaches were under the name Série 250 in use. Two three-piece Z 6100 were sold by the SNCF to the CFL and designated as Série 260.
