The airport Szczecin - Goleniów (IATA SZZ, Polish port of Szczecin - Goleniów Lotniczy im.NSZZ SOLIDARNOŚĆ ) is an international airport in Poland.

Geographical location

The airport is located 30 km northeast of Stettin and five kilometers northeast of Goleniów along Route 3 from Świnoujście ( Swinoujscie ) to Jakuszyce and the national road 6 of Goleniów to Gdansk.

History

With the 1956 completed construction of the airport began in 1953. It was built as a military airfield with a start and runway of 1800 m including hangars, two tank farms a tower by 45 m, a workshop, and. 1957, the second fighter squadron was moved to Kraków. 1967 the civilian airport in Dabie was moved to Szczecin - Goleniów, which was now, for civilian use on a separated part. 1976 to 1977, the airport was modernized and extended the start and runway at 2500 m. This was the airport at the time of modern Poland. 1994 ended the deployment of the fighter squadron. In 1998, the start and runway and renovated the parking areas for aircrafts. On May 29, 2013, a single-track airport railway station opened, the the train takes travelers from Szczecin and Kolobrzeg directly to the terminal, thus eliminating the Umsteigezwang on the shuttle bus from the train station Goleniów 7 km away.

The Berlin architect Tim Obermann and Stefan Janitschek OJPA have developed in 2006 for the Airport Szczecin a master plan for 2035b and a design for a new terminal.
