Solnechnodolsk

Solnetschnodolsk (Russian Солнечнодольск ) is an urban-type settlement in the Stavropol (Russia) region with 12,137 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The settlement is situated about 50 km north- west of the administrative center of Stavropol region in the northern foothills of the Greater Caucasus. It is located on the left bank of the dam there to Nowotroizkoje pent Jegorlyk.

Solnetschnodolsk belongs to Rajons Isobilnenski and is located about 20 km south-west of the administrative center Isobilny. It is the seat and only town of the same township ( gorodskoje posselenije ).

History

The town was started in 1971 in connection with the construction of the thermal power station Stavropolskaya GRES from 1973 and received in the same year, the status of an urban-type settlement. The name is derived from the Russian words for sun and Solnze dolina for Dale. The four units of the power plant went into operation 1974-1983.

Economy and Transport

The site is the business end of OGK -2 operated, located in the northern outskirts thermal power plant Stavropolskaya GRES with a capacity of 2400 MW.

16 km north of the village is the nearest railway station on the route Kawkasskaja ( Kropotkin ) - Stavropol, where a siding leading to the power plant. Solnetschnodolsk is located on the regional road 07K -038 after Sengilejewskoje, 10 km to the north at Nowotroizkaja to the 07K -036 Stavropol - connecting Krasnogwardeiskoje - Isobilny.
