Songnim

Songnim ( Kor. 송림 ) is a port city in North Korea with 128 831 inhabitants. It is located in the province of Hwanghae- pukto the Taedong River and is a center of the steel industry.

History

Prior to the establishment of an iron foundry in 1916 Songnim was a small coastal village. Due to the evolving steel industry grew rapidly to the city. During the Japanese rule over Korea, the city Kyŏmip'o ( 겸이 포 ,兼 二 浦) was called and completely bombed during the Korean War.
