Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation
Sony DADC is a manufacturer of optical storage media and the Sony Corporation. The acronym originally stood for DADC Digital Audio Disc Corporation, however, has become obsolete with the advent of the latest follow- medium Digital Versatile Disc ( DVD) and has since been used only in the short form as a brand name.
The Digital Audio Disc Corporation ( DADC ), a joint venture between Sony and CBS, in May 1983 opened its first plant in Terre Haute, in the United States. The first Compact Disc (CD ) was prepared in the factory and published in September 1984, Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. Already in October 1985 bought the Sony Corporation of America (SCA ), the share of CBS and thus took over the work completely.
The location of Terre Haute was the first CD replication plant in the USA and is now Sony's main production facility for optical storage media. According to Terre Haute was also expanded to the seat of the Research and Development Center of Sony DADC.
In 1988, SCA purchased the music division of CBS Records CBS, and named this 1991 Sony Music Entertainment (SME ) around. These sites were retrofitted part of Sony Disc Manufacturing ( SDM ) and partly for CD replication. The modernized SDM locations Pitman (1988 ), Manaus ( 1992), Toronto ( 1994) and Mexico City ( 1994) were eventually integrated into Sony DADC 2004.
International important location for the disc replication is Sony DADC Austria, based in Anif. With the restructuring of the replication sites of Sony, which was begun in 2004, which opened 1986 Location Anif became the headquarters of Sony DADC Global ( excluding USA and Japan).
