Sophie & Magaly

Sophie & Magaly was a French pop duo consisting of twin sisters Sophie and Magaly Gilles. They represented Luxembourg at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1980 in The Hague with the hit Papa Pingouin (German: Papa Penguin ), which earned them a ninth place. The piece, which was composed by Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger, was a chart hit in France. But already the second single was not very successful. It appeared two singles the following year, before the duo disappeared from the scene.

Magaly Gilles died in 1996 at the consequences of HIV infection.
