Soultz-sous-Forêts

Soultz -sous -Forêts ( German Sulz under forest ) is a commune with 2970 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is the main town ( chef -lieu ) of the canton of the same name. The Annex to the place name was derived from the hilly and largely wooded landscape flanking the village, which is located 50 km from Strasbourg.

Economy and infrastructure

In Soultz -sous -Forêts is the Bureau de Recherches et Geologiques Minières, a research institute of Geology and ore ( Minières = ore mine ).

The community is involved in the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest -Vosges du Nord.

In 1986, with the design of a geothermal respectively. Deep geothermal power plant started. In July 2008, this was taken as the first of its kind in France in operation.
