South Molle Iceland is an island in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. The island lies in Molle Islands National Park and belongs to a subgroup of the Whitsunday Islands ( Great Barrier Reef ), the comprehensive eight islands Molle Islands. These are officially counted among the Cumberland Islands. South Molle Iceland is the largest island of the archipelago Molle Islands.

Description

South Molle Iceland is among the 17 islands of the archipelago of the 74 comprehensive Whitesunday Islands that is inhabited and also a hotel resort has. It is located directly off the Australian coast and can be reached from the nearby Shute Harbour with ships or landing on seaplanes. The place is nächstgelegende Airlie Beach.

South Molle Iceland was formed in an ice age as an island as melted the polar ice. It is named after Colonel George James Molle, who was in the British colonial Lieutenant Governor in New South Wales.
