Southern District (Hongkong)

Southern District is a district in Hong Kong in the southern part of Hong Kong Iceland. Of the four districts on Hong Kong Iceland has 39.40 km ² Southern with the largest area and lowest population density. In the 2011 census a population of 278 655 was determined.

Also some close islands belong to the Southern District. The largest, Ap Lei Chau, is connected by a bridge to a four-lane road to Hong Kong Iceland. However, more distant islands to the south of Hong Kong Iceland are part of the Islands District.

In the west and southwest of the Southern District there with Pok Fu Lam, Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau larger residential areas. The theme park Ocean Park is located near Aberdeen. The eastern part of the Southern District is less urban. There are several beaches, for example in the Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay and Stanley Bay. The majority of the 50 km long Hong Kong Trail is located in Southern. The fishing village of Shek O in the southeast is a popular resort.

Traffic

The Route 1 runs through the Aberdeen Tunnel to the Wan Chai District and connects the Southern District with the expressway network in Hong Kong. As of April 2013, there are no lines in the Southern District of the Mass Transit Railways. A South Iceland Line is located in the building of Wan Chai after Ap Lei Chau. All locations are accessible by bus routes.
