Spårväg City

Spårväg City is a tram in the city center of Stockholm.

It is an extension of the tram Djurgården, which was operated with historical cars since 1991 on the stretch of Norrmalstorg to Waldemarsudde. In the coming years it will be built a tram line that runs through downtown Stockholm Kungsholmen in the west to the bridge to Lidingö.

History

With the introduction of legal relations in Sweden on September 3, 1967 ( Dagen H) was shut down in the existing tram network in Stockholm, the Tunnelbanan and buses should take the traffic. Since that day in Stockholm was not a regular tram operation more. Since 1991, a museum traffic was operated with historic cars on the newly constructed Djurgården between Norrmalmstorg Waldemarsudde.

Since then, an upgrading of this route has been discussed to the subway station T -Centralen at Stockholm Central Station and the integration of the line into the regular SL- line network again and again. On 19 July 2007 the extension of Djurgården to T -Centralen and the inclusion of a regular tram operation was decided upon. A main point of contention was the traffic flow on the Hamngatan, a busy road in the city center. Later in the initial planning has been significantly expanded. The route will now be extended beyond T- centralen on the island of Kungsholmen and there opens up a new area in the northwest of the island.

In the fall of 2009, construction work began on the first section of the route of Waldemarsudde to Sergels Torg, this the tracks of the existing track were renewed and laid new tracks between Norrmalmstorg and Sergels Torg. The work was completed in May 2010, the commissioning took place on August 23, 2010. The new line has the number 7, which continues to carry trains running Museumswagen now the name 7N. An additional, occasional circulating amplifier line 7E only reaches the turning loop Skansen. The regular line 7 applies the late evening but even there.

With the introduction of Spårväg City bus number 47 was the same set that had previously connected the city in a short clock with Djurgården.

Further plans

A Streckenast is planned by the Djurgårdsbron about Frihamnen after Ropsten. Due to the route through the Frihamnen whose industrial use to be progressively reduced and are planned in the residential and commercial buildings, this district is served by public transport. In Ropsten a link to the Red Branch of Tunnelbanan and Lidingöbanan done. At a later time the trams of the city are to be transferred to the Lidingöbahn and follow through to Gåshaga.

Rolling stock

The power supply is similar to the Tvärbanan with 750V DC. The use of already on the Tvärbanan in the patrol car of the type A32 is not possible due to the tight curves of the track. Therefore, various vehicles were tested on the track. The choice finally fell on the model of Flexity Classic Bombardier, which is now referred to as SL A34. Because the new vehicles ordered were not available quickly enough, the company was first incorporated with rental vehicles from Norrköping and Frankfurt am Main. The end of 2011 the new vehicles ordered to go into operation, the borrowed then come back to their lenders. The current color scheme is ( black with golden stripes ) the subject of the discussion. In the summer of 2011, some vehicles drove with lateral, large-area advertising print. In November 2011 it was decided after a new vote on the website of SL that the cars continue to wear the color blue. This product is based on the blue-painted wagons to operate until 1967. The color is the same as is used by SL in its corporate design. The existing six cars were repainted. New cars that were ordered from the Spanish company CAF, will be delivered in 2013.

Further expansion

On 30 August 2011, the second phase of the Djurgårdsbron to Ropsten and continuous link with the Lidingöbanan was decided until after Gåshaga. The planning included is a new tram depot on Lidingö. A further construction Sergels Torg from the west is only possible if the gain of the ceiling structure of the pedestrian passage is completed under the Sergels Torg.
