Spider Stacy

Peter " Spider" Stacy ( born December 14, 1958 in Eastbourne / England) is an English musician and songwriter. He is one of the founding members of the Irish / English folk - punk band The Pogues.

Life & Career

Nicknamed Spider Stacy got at the age of 12 years by a friend because of his scrawny body and his long arms and legs. After he was expelled at the age of 16 years of school, he fought with a variety of odd jobs through life. Among other things, he tried his hand as a car salesman, but without being in possession of a driving license.

Stacy began his music career in the late 1970s in London's punk rock scene as the frontman of the Millwall Chainsaws (later with Shane MacGowan on guitar ), who later changed their name to The New Republicans.

After a short pause founded Stacy, Shane MacGowan, Jem Finer and James Fearnley The Pogues. Spider Stacy here was responsible for the naming after the proposals of the other ( The Men They Could not Hang and The Noisy Boysies ) were rejected. He took along with MacGowan singing, but behaved in the first race of Pogue Mahone so wrong that the rest of the band wanted to throw him out. However, Shane convinced her to leave him in the band, when Spider Tin Whistle would learn and borrowed a set with this textbook. Thus, its role was clear in the group they left the band, remained until the departure of MacGowan 1991.

Stacy stayed with the Pogues until they disbanded in 1996. On the last two albums Stacy MacGowans took over role as lead singer. During this time, the Pogues were at their greatest commercial success in the American charts with the single Tuesday Morning, which ranked number 11 on the Billboard Charts. It was thus the highest placed single ( number 18 in the UK charts 1993), which has been exclusively produced by the Pogues. The other two singles, which were placed higher ( Fairytale of New York and The Irish Rover ) were produced with guest musicians ( Kirsty MacColl and The Dubliners ).

Stacy has been the reunification of the Pogues 2001 to the present day with them on tour.

In 2005 he joined with Patti Smith at the Royal Festival Hall in London during their tour on Meltdown. He sang Joe Hill together with her and accompanied her on the tin whistle while a medieval ballad was the best.

2007 Stacy appeared (along with Ronnie Drew ) on the Dropkick Murphys album The Meanest of Times. It reached number 20 on the Billboard charts and he regularly performed on their tour.

In April 2011, Stacy joined together with Gogol Bordello at the Tipitina 's, New Orleans, where they Ewan MacColl 's Dirty Old Town aufführten together. Even with Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre band he took in 2009 a new version of the title on.

Stacy was heavily involved in Jean MacColl 's Justice For Kirsty campaign until it was incorporated into the Music Found for Cuba. Spider and the Pogues support until today she and her family at this charity.
