Søren Lerby

Søren Lerby ( born 1 February 1958 in Copenhagen) is a Danish former football player and coach. He is currently active as a player agent.

Career

Clubs

In youth Lerby played for B 1903 Copenhagen, Taastrup IK and Fremad Amager. In the latter club - even at the age of 17 years already in the 1st division play - he was discovered in 1975 as a talent from the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam and committed. On April 11, 1976 Lerby debuted in the Eredivisie, the top division in the Netherlands, against Go Ahead Eagles Deventer. In eight seasons, he won five league titles and two times the KNVB Cup.

With the beginning of season 1983/84 Lerby moved to FC Bayern Munich, where he was to replace the end of the preseason came back Paul Breitner. In his first year at Bayern Lerby did not yield any responsive performance. The former coach Udo Lattek wanted to get rid of it already, but there was no buyer. However, the second year he played better. Overall Lerby remained three seasons in Munich and won two championships and twice the DFB Cup.

After three years in Germany Lerby moved to France for first division club AS Monaco, for which he, however, played only one season. The last two years of his active professional career, he graduated from the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven with whom he won the European Champions Cup twice each, the league and cup double and once in that time.

National

Lerby debuted in the jersey of the national team when he won 2-0 with the U -17 on 27 October 1973 in Hobro against Norway. For the U-19 selection, he came for the first time on 30 April 1974 in Holbæk in the 0-2 defeat against Sweden for use; his first international goal he succeeded on 24 September 1975 in Tamby in the 2:4 defeat against Sweden. For the U-21 national team, he played three times, the first time on October 28, 1976 in the 2-0 victory over Sweden in Copenhagen, the last time on September 20, 1977 in the 0-1 defeat against Poland in Novi Sad.

On May 24, 1978 - during the time at Ajax Amsterdam - he came in the European Championship qualifier, a 3-3 draw against Ireland, for the first time in the senior team for use. Lerby took in 1984 at the European Championships and 1986 World Cup finals, played in both tournaments all games of his team and succeeded in the tournament each a goal. At the 1988 European Championship, he took part also, but was used only in two games. Lerby ended his career as a national player on 15 November 1989 after the 1-3 defeat in the World Cup qualifier against Romania.

Others

On November 13, 1985, he played in one day, both a game for the national team as well as one for the FC Bayern Munich. It was not until he arrived in the afternoon in the final qualifying match for the 1986 World Cup against Ireland in Dublin suburban and a few hours later in the second round of the DFB Cup in Bochum.

He returned once to the German football, when he took on 9 October 1991 as the successor of Jupp Heynckes as coach at his former club FC Bayern Munich and this held until March 10, 1992. After this unique trainer commitment Lerby moved to the position of a players' agent.
