1979–80 European Cup

The European Champions' Cup 1979/80 was the 25th edition of the competition. 33 club teams participated, including 32 national champions from the previous season and with Nottingham Forest, the defending champion. Finalort of the competition was the Madrid Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on May 28, 1980.

The participants played in the Cup mode with pure (except for the final) round-trip games for the crown of European club football. In Torgleichstand first counted the greater number of away goals scored; there was also this a tie, the second leg was extended and, if necessary, immediately then discharged a penalty shootout to decide.

The first leg took place on August 29, instead of the return game on 5 September 1979.

First round
