1958–59 European Cup
The European Champions' Cup 1958/59 was the 4th edition of the competition. 26 club teams participated, including 25 national champion of the previous season and with Atlético Madrid of the Spanish League runner-up, as the Spanish champions Real Madrid qualified automatically as defending champions.
The participants played in the Cup mode with pure (except for the final) round-trip games for the crown of European club football. Case of a tie, there was a playoff on neutral ground. With the exception of Real Madrid, the Wolverhampton Wanderers, ZDNA Sofia and HPS Helsinki clubs in the preliminary round had to start.
The finale was held on June 3, 1959 in Stuttgart Neckar Stadium in front of 80,000 spectators instead. It was a remake of the very first European Cup final match Real Madrid won 2-0 against Stade Reims for the fourth time in a row the trophy. Scorer was Just Fontaine of Stade Reims with ten goals.
