1962–63 European Cup

The European Champions' Cup 1962/63 was the 8th edition of the competition. 30 club teams participated, including 29 national champion of the previous season with Benfica, the defending champion. With Partizani Tirana for the first time took part in an Albanian team in the competition.

The participants played in the pure Cup mode (except for the final) round-trip games for the crown of European club football. Case of a tie, there was a playoff on neutral ground. Except for Benfica and Stade Reims, the clubs started in the first round.

The final took place at Wembley Stadium in London in front of 45,000 spectators on 22 May 1963. It was the first final, where no Spanish team was involved. AC Milan won 2-1 against Benfica Lisbon for the first time the trophy and was only the third title winner and the first Italian winner. Scorer was José Altafini from AC Milan with 14 goals.
