1979–80 UEFA Cup

The UEFA Cup 1979/80 was the ninth edition of the competition and was won by Eintracht Frankfurt, after the crew of Friedel Rausch won in pure West German final against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the away goals rule. The " Borussia " stand for the fourth time in the final. In addition to the two finalists and FC Bayern Munich, the first FC Kaiserslautern and VfB Stuttgart were represented and reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals. Dynamo Dresden and FC Carl Zeiss Jena participated for the German Democratic Republic, the SK Rapid Wien and the Wiener Sport - Club for Austria and the Grasshopper Club Zurich and FC Zurich in Switzerland.

With seven hits were Dieter Hoeness of Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach Harald Nickel scorer, followed by Mikhailov ( Lokomotiv Sofia ) with 6 and Michel Platini and Johnny Rep ( both AS Saint- Étienne ) with 5 goals.

The UEFA Cup season 1979 /80 is also referred to as a "German Year ". All five participants from the Federal Republic of Germany reached the quarter- finals. In the semi-finals and final German associations were then only represented. No federal German club is excreted against a non-German opponents.
