2001–02 UEFA Cup
The UEFA Cup 2001/ 02 was the 31st edition of the competition and was won by Feyenoord Rotterdam in the domestic Feyenoord Stadium against Borussia Dortmund. The Rotterdam were able to use their home advantage and won the game 3-2. It was the 36th European Cup final with German participation ( with DDR ).
Entitled to participate were all the clubs who had occupied one of the matters governed by the UEFA five year ranking UEFA Cup places in the past to end the season. Like last year, qualified again three clubs on the UEFA Intertoto Cup for the first round. The competition was held in six rounds, in home and away matches. In Torgleichstand initially decided the number of away goals scored, then an extension has been reached no decision on this after two periods of 15 minutes was followed by a penalty shoot-out, until the winner was determined. For the third round also met the eight from the first group stage of the Champions League as third-placed clubs for retired participants.
Aston Villa, Paris Saint- Germain and ES Troyes AC qualified via the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
Lokomotiv Moscow, Borussia Dortmund, RCD Mallorca, PSV Eindhoven, Celtic, Olympique Lyon, Lille and Feyenoord Rotterdam qualified third party as a group the first group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2001 / 02 for the 3rd round.
Inter Milan came quite easily continue against AEK Athens, after a 3-1 home win gave them a 2-2 away. Just as easily, it had the FC Valencia, the Hertha - threw slayer Servette Geneva 3-0 and 2-2 from the competition. The first big surprise was the departure of the French top club Olympique Lyon, who came home to a 1-1 draw against the Czech club Slovan Liberec and abroad came with 1:4 under the wheels. The semi-finals had ready two surprises.

Inter Milan lost the home leg 0-1, in the second leg you could not win despite twice leading and retired unhappy.
