2000–01 UEFA Cup
The UEFA Cup 2000/ 01 was the 30th edition of the competition and was won by Liverpool against Deportivo Alavés with 5-4 on a golden goal. The finale took place in Westfalen Stadium Dortmund.
Mode
Entitled to participate were all the clubs who had occupied one of the matters governed by the UEFA five year ranking UEFA Cup places in the past to end the season. Like last year, qualified again three clubs on the UEFA Intertoto Cup for the first round. The competition was held in six rounds, in home and away matches. In Torgleichstand initially decided the number of away goals scored, then an extension has been reached no decision on this after two periods of 15 minutes was followed by a penalty shoot-out, until the winner was determined. For the third round also met the eight from the first group stage of the Champions League as third-placed clubs for retired participants.
Qualification
First round
Udinese Calcio, Celta Vigo and VfB Stuttgart qualified as winners of the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2000. Further 16 teams qualified as losers in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, including the TSV 1860 München.
2nd round
Round 3
Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Olympiakos Piraeus, Rangers FC, Hamburger SV, Rosenborg Trondheim, PSV Eindhoven and FC Barcelona qualified third party as a group the first group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2000 / 01 for the 3rd round.
