St. Pierre Island

Saint- Pierre is a small island in the Indian Ocean, which belongs to the so-called Outer Islands of the Republic of Seychelles. It lies within the Farquhar Group and is about 35 km west of Providence Atoll located. Until Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles to the northeast, there are about 700 kilometers to the Aldabra Atoll in the south-west about 500 kilometers.

Saint- Pierre is a roughly circular island with a length of 1.6 km in the east-west direction and a width of 1.4 km from north to south and has an area of 1.68 km ². The island is an upscale atoll with a steep coast, which makes it difficult to landing with boats. Saint- Pierre reached on the cliff coast a height of up to 12 m above the sea, in the interior of the island, however, the surface is approximately at sea level.

On today uninhabited island was intensively mined 1906-1972 guano while the former vegetation, which consisted mainly of Pisonia trees ( Pisonia grandis), largely destroyed. The northwestern part of the island is covered by up to 12 m high casuarina ( Casuarina ).
