The Stade Michel d'Ornano 's football stadium, opened in 1993 in Caen, Calvados in the Basse -Normandie, France.

History

In the construction period from December 1991 to June 1993 is created instead of the old Stade de Venoix the new stadium. Owes its name to the Arena, the former French politician Michel d' Ornano. The Stade de Venoix with velodrome was built in 1925; it only holds 9,000 spectators and did not meet the requirements of the first league.

On June 6, 1993, the new stadium was inaugurated by the then French Prime Minister Édouard Balladur. For the inauguration of the SM Caen played against FC Bayern München and won 4-1. Bayern had played the last game of the season 92/93 against FC Schalke 04 ( 3:3 ) until the day before.

The stadium was designed for a capacity of 22,864 spectators. By converting from standing in seats after the "drama of Furiani " decreased the number to 21,500 places today. The record attendance dates back to the 4th of December 2004 when the SM Caen played against Olympique Marseille. The total cost of construction amounted to FF 149 million (approx. € 22.7 million ). The Arena extends to 180 m in length with a width of 163 m and extends 18.50 m in height. The pitch dimensions are 105 m by 68 m. The floodlight system consists of 100 headlights; mounted on the roof of the stadium, it makes 1400 lux

The stadium is the first stadium in Caen of several stages such as the Stade Louis- Dugauguez ( Sedan), Stade Auguste Bonal - (Sochaux ) or the Stade de la Route de Lorient ( Rennes), which consist of individual modules from a modular system. Use
