To September 1, 1985 Malchow was divided; the old village center came to the newly formed district Hohenschonhausen, while the remaining area of Malchow including the suburban settlement in the district of Weissensee remained. Since the formation of new large districts in 2001, the city Malchow belongs to a district 's Pankow district and the old town center of Malchow as a district to the district of Lichtenberg.

The suburban settlement was built between 1936 and 1939 on former sewage about a kilometer southwest of the old village of Malchow. Its streets are named after characters and places from Norse mythology.
