Game system

More so than any other coach Solbakken sets out to cover the room with a zone defense. The four chains remain at an altitude close together and not move to the side where the ball is located. This is to prevent a small outdoor central defender has to play against a strong attacker header. To achieve this, one renounces the doubles on the outside of exterior and interior defender. The support of the full-back is performed by one of the two sixes. Solbakken leaves the back four rows move up far. The striker should cover the opponent's six and prevent the outer midfielder that the opponent bridged via the winger the midfield. Your opponent's game is so directed in the vicinity of your own door to the outside or, if to the center., But then further away from its own goal Solbakken studied in July 2011 at a training camp at the Walchsea ( Austria ) with the crew of the 1.FC Köln different signals Pressing one.

If the distance from the striker is very large to back, no ability to press is played, but the player should try to keep the tape compact. Once Solbakkens player but remember that a poorly played ball is on the way, which could cause problems when receiving a pass, the opponents are immediately attacked and played their ability to press. Another Pressing signal when an opposing defender is the gate to the back. The striker then set to the center back. Pressing The signal then comes from the ball near striker. This means that the entire defense has to be addressed after the striker. If then it is the striker who will follow up on all the other team members.

At the 1st FC Cologne, this system proved not so good. The respective opponents flankten very often in the Cologne area. Coupled with individual errors and, as it was called Solbakken, "mental weakness ", which led to more than 60 goals conceded in 30 games.
