Stanislav Jungwirth

Stanislav Jungwirth ( born August 15, 1930 in Prachatice, † April 11, 1986 in Prague) was a Czech middle distance runner. He introduced in the 50s ever a world record in the 1000m and 1500m on, his greatest success in international championships was winning the bronze in the 1500m at the European Championships in 1954.

In 1952 he qualified over 1500m for the Olympics, but he was excluded from the team because of his father, who was imprisoned as a dissident. The runner Emil Zatopek popular refused to travel to Helsinki without Jungwirth; only two days after the rest of the Czechoslovak team had arrived without both there, the authorities allowed the participation Jungwirth, who then nachreiste with Zatopek. In Olympic competition but he left his seventh semi-finals with 3:51,0 min. On October 27, he put in 2:21,2 min on a world record over the 1000m.
