Stanisław Szymecki

Stanisław Szymecki ( born January 26, 1924 in Katowice- Zaleska Halda, Silesia, Poland) is a retired archbishop of Białystok.

Life

The Archbishop of Reims, Emmanuel Célestin Cardinal Suhard, consecrated him on July 3, 1947 in the chapel of the Polish seminary priest in Paris. At this ceremony included the Apostolic Nuncio in France, Angelo Roncalli took part. 1948 after back Poland, he went into the church ministry. In 1961 he moved back to France, he received his doctorate in fundamental theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris. From 1968 to 1978 he was rector of the seminary in Krakow.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 March 1981 for the Bishop of Kielce and donated to him on 12 April of the same year in the Sistine chapel consecrated bishop; Co-consecrators were Szczepan Wesoly, Auxiliary Bishop of Gniezno, and Jan Gurda, Auxiliary Bishop of Kielce. On May 15, 1993, he was appointed archbishop of Białystok.

On 16 November 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.

Stanisław Szymecki is Grand Officer of the Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
