Stefan Goldmann ( born June 1, 1978 in Berlin ) is a composer of electronic music, DJ and producer.

Youth and studies

Stefan Goldmann grew up in Berlin and Sofia. His father was the composer and conductor Friedrich Goldmann, his mother is the Bulgarian concert critic Lina Semowa - Goldmann. He first played bass guitar in several bands, but also appeared, still in his school days, first as a drum -and- bass DJ on. He studied acoustic communication in Berlin and wrote his master's thesis on the psychoacoustics of overlapping rhythms. He then studied law, also in Berlin and specialized in economic and intellectual.

First publications

From about 1999 he began to produce electronic music, especially techno and house, but also electro acoustic through-composed works. First singles, EPs and remixes released on labels as of 2001 in the UK and the USA. Since 2005 he published for the Berlin label Perlon and Innervisions, and began as a result, increasingly international, and especially in the Panorama Bar Berlin club Berghain act as DJ. In Japan, he worked with the label Mule Musiq. In 2007, Goldmann the label macro that presents not only his own productions and works by other artists. There his first CD The Transitory State appeared at the same time with an album of electro-acoustic compositions, Voices Of The Dead. For the live presentation, he developed the " Electroacoustic Salon", which is continued as a series of events at Berghain.

The tracks of this period are characterized by independent approaches which were new for the club cultural context, but this remained closely linked. So with Sleepy Hollow, Lunatic Fringe, Art Of Sorrow or The Maze arose partly underground hits, the avant-garde had yet achieved Poll rankings. Through their use of melodies, samples and rhythmic designs, these tracks are considered today as the dominant influence of the so-called post- minimal techno.

Conceptual approaches

What these tracks foreshadowed, Goldman began to transfer to broader publications from 2009. The greater part of his work since then has been influenced by concepts that support equally to musical content ( eg, rhythmic and harmonic systems ) as production-related or media-specific properties (eg, by use of continuous grooves of vinyl records or issues of digitization ). These include, inter alia, his remixes for Igor Stravinsky's " Le Sacre Du Printemps ," and Christian Fennesz, the mix CD Macrospective, the album 17:50 as well as the ballet The Grand Hemiola, that was listed by the choreographer Kevin O'day. His job, he describes this as the " locating and closing gaps. " Some of this work is hardly perceived as techno, but are usually derived from its characteristics. The former restriction to electronic sound production has been extended through collaborations, including with ensembles for contemporary music or the band Elektro Guzzi. In addition to his appearances as a DJ now occur to an increased commissions for cultural institutions and festivals, such as the National Theatre Mannheim, Ny Musikk Norway or the BASF culture program. 2012 Goldmann was Artist in Residence at the Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto, Japan.
