Stefan Niederseer

Stefan Niederseer ( born September 29, 1962 in Saalbach -Hinterglemm ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. The downhill specialist in 1985 Austrian Champion and achieved a podium finish in the World Cup and two victories in the European Cup.

Career

Niederseer already came at the age of three years ski club in his hometown. About the Salzburg provincial squad, he passed the entrance into the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Federation and the end of the 1970s, he rose to the national team. His debut in the World Cup he had in the departure of St. Moritz on 21 December 1980. First, however, he started still mostly in the European Cup, in which he celebrated two victories in the season 1981/82 and again finished third, reaching behind the Swiss Karl Alpiger second place in the downhill score and tenth in the overall standings.

His first World Cup points brought Niederseer in December 1982 in the two runs on the Saslong in Val Gardena, where he finished in 13th and 14th place. The next winter he came three times already in the top ten. At the season opener in Schladming he finished seventh as well as in the downhill in Garmisch- Partenkirchen end of January. In Garmisch he also finished sixth in the combination. In the 1984/85 season Niederseer also came three times in the top ten. The third place in the downhill in Bad Kleinkirchheim, on 14 February 1985, his best result ever. In the downhill World Cup he got away with it in 15th and in Radstadt he was Austrian downhill champion.

He also came first in Super-G at the points. Also next winter he scored similar results. With fourth place in the downhill in Val d'Isere he succeeded his second-best World Cup result. After an injury Niederseer took place in the 1987/88 season not to its former shape and came back in any race in the top 15 Also the next winter began without countable results. On 6 January 1989, he withdrew in a crash on the descent of Laax serious injuries, which meant the end of his career.
