Stefano Bosi

Stefano Bosi ( born September 14, 1954 in Florence ) is an Italian former table tennis player. From 1996 to 2013 he was President of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU.

Table tennis players

In the 1970s, Stefano Bosi was one of the best table tennis players of Italy. 1971, 1973 and 1976, he led the national rankings. At the national championships in Italy, he won seven times the singles titles (1971-1975, 1977, 1979 ), four in a double and three times in the mixed doubles.

In the Mediterranean Championships ( Mediterranean Championships ) he was in the 1971 Double with Stefano Malesci Second, in 1975, he reached the semifinals in singles and won gold with the team. Four times he represented Italy at the World Championships, namely 1973, 1975, 1977 and 1979, but never came here in the near medal ranks.

In total he played 250 games for the national team of Italy.

Functionary

After the end of his active career Stefano Bosi took over official duties. From 1990 to 2004 he was President of the Italian Table Tennis Association.

He was Vice- President of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU 1993. In May 1997, the Swede Nils Bergström, the Office of the President ETTU gave up because he was appointed Vice- President of the ITTF, Stefano Bosi took over as acting its tasks. A year later, at the ETTU Congress during the European Championship 1998 in Manchester, he was officially elected president. During his tenure, he changed the competition format of the European Championships, these have now been played annually, the mixed competition was outsourced to an independent event. He also specified the requirements for the organizers of the European ranking tournament Europe Top -12, which meant that there was no longer a host for 2014. Criticized the increased advent appointment with the consequent increased time pressures of the assets. He was also " mismanagement " accused, leading to financial problem in the ETTU.

On 15 May 2013, competed in Paris for the office of ITTF President with the aim of replacing the incumbent Adham Sharara. This candidacy failed, he was supported by only about 25 percent of those voting. Then intensified the criticism even within the ETTU why Bosi resigned on August 9, 2013 as the ETTU President. His successor was the Dutchman Ronald Kramer.

Private

Stefano Bosi graduated from the Superior Institute of Physical Education ( ISEF ) in Florence and sports science at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. He married in 1980 and has one daughter.
