Geographical location

Steinheim and Teilort Sontheim lie in the Steinheim basin, a caldera 503-718 meters high with a rim diameter of 3.5 km. This has arisen before about 15 million years ago by the impact of a meteorite.

History

A first colonization of Steinheim probably took place in the Hallstatt period 800-480 BC. Testify single grave mound. Early 5th century settled by the Alamanni.
