Stenopus hispidus

The Stenopodidea are a partial order of decapods ( Decapoda ). It contains among other things the scissors shrimp.

Features

The physique of Stenopodidea is shrimp -like. However, the first three pairs of walking legs are provided with scissors, of which the third pair typically has the largest shears. The carapace is connected to the thorax. The eyes are stalked. The Antennule have two scourge, the second pair of antennae each has a base ( antennal peduncle ) of five segments and a Scaphoceriten. The third pair of maxillipeds is very long compared to other decapods. The swimming legs have no appendages internae. The Pleuron of the first abdominal segment overlaps the second.

Types of Stenopodidea usually live on coral reefs in the tropical and subtropical seas or on the muddy bottom of the deep sea, such as types of Odontozona.

System

The Stenopodidea seem related to the Caridea and form a clade with those who confronts as a sister group to the remaining taxa of the Pleocyemata.

The Stenopodidea include a total of 71 tart known species within the following three families:

  • Macromaxillocarididae Alvarez, Iliffe & Villalobos, 2006
  • Spongicolidae Schram, 1986
  • Scissors shrimp ( Stenopodidae Claus, 1872)

The families can be about body shape, distinguish the size and shape of the third maxillipeds as well as tips on telson.
