Stephen Holland

Stephen Holland ( born May 31, 1958) is a former Australian swimmer.

In his short but spectacular career he set 12 world records in swimming. His nickname was " Superfish ".

He made the headlines with the first 15 years when he won the world record over 1500 m broke at the Australian Championships in 1973. Consequently, he was also among the first swimming world championships in the same year in Belgrade World Champion on the long distance freestyle. Due to this success, he was elected "ABC Sportsman of the Year".

At the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976, he was considered the big favorite, but gave up the 1,500 m freestyle a tough competition to the victory in the US- American Bobby Hackett, Brian Goodell and Tim Shaw miteintraten. In the final, Holland won "only" the bronze medal and entered then disappointed at the age of 18 years from swimming back.
