Tim Shaw (swimmer)

Timothy A. " Tim " Shaw ( born November 8, 1957 in Long Beach, California ) is a former American swimmer and water polo player.

In 1974, he held the world record over 200 m, 400 m and 1500 m freestyle. At the World Championships 1975 he became world champion in both the 200 m, 400 m, 1500 m and the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay the United States. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he won the 400m freestyle and the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay silver medal. A year later, he stepped back from swimming to resume his career as a water polo player. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he won the silver medal again, this time with the U.S. water polo team and is one of the few athletes who won Olympic medals in two sports.

In 1989 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
