Giorgio Lamberti

Giorgio Lamberti ( born January 28, 1969 in Brescia ) is an Italian former swimmer.

With 6 years of age he began to strengthen his body with a swim. At the age of 17, he was then for the first time Italian champion. He had at the European Championships 1987 in Strasbourg, when he won the silver medal in the 200 m freestyle his first major international appearance. Two years later he became European champion in the 100 m and 200 m freestyle at the European Championships in 1989 in Bonn. About 200 m freestyle at the same time he set a new world record that would have 10 years of existence. In 1991, he was then at the World Swimming Championships in Perth both the 200m freestyle, and surprisingly with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay in Italy, world champions. At Olympic Games, however, he could not win a medal.

He was voted European Swimmer of the Year in 1989. 1993 ended Lamberti his career as a swimmer. In 2004, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
