Paul Biedermann

Paul Biedermann ( born August 7, 1986 in Halle ( Saale) ) is a German swimmers. He is the first man who's 200 meter freestyle swum in under 1:40 minutes.

Career

Paul Biedermann trained in SV Hall at Frank Embacher. His first major success was Biedermann at the European Swimming Championships 2008 in Eindhoven recorded over 200 meters freestyle and took it for an improvement of the German record of Michael Gross in 1984 his record he improved a few weeks later at the German Championships in Berlin on 1. : 46.37 min. In the finals at the Olympic Games in Beijing Biedermann has been improved again and improve his German record 1:46,00 min.

Although Biedermann a six-week break from training had to take in winter 2008/ 09 by a disease, he could put up in his first international competition in 2009 during the Mare Nostrum Tour - a European record over 200 meters freestyle.

With the World Swimming Championships 2009 in Rome Biedermann won on July 26, gold 400 -meter freestyle and broke the existing simultaneously in seven years record of Ian Thorpe to a hundredth of a second, which had previously been regarded by experts as hard to beat. Thorpe called him after the race and congratulated him with the words: " It was not just the suit, it was you ." Two days later, he secured the gold medal in the 200 meters freestyle and sent the 14-time Olympic gold medalist and 18- time world champion Michael Phelps, who had however dispense with the later banned swimsuit, to second place. This was beaten by 1.2 seconds, and lost both his world record, the Biedermann undercut by nearly one second. It was Phelps ' first defeat in a major international event since the World Swimming Championships in 2005 in Montreal, where he lost to his compatriot Ian Crocker in the 100 meters butterfly. Together with Helge Meeuw, Hendrik Feldwehr and Benjamin Strong Biedermann presented with the 4 x 100 meter medley relay in Rome a European record ( 3:28,58 min) of what's behind the world record ( 3:27,28 min) floating U.S. quartet Michael Phelps meant winning the silver medal.
