Ian Black (swimmer)

Ian Macintosh Black (born 27 June 1941 in Aberdeen) is a former Scottish swimmer who competed for Great Britain.

At the European Championships in 1958 he has his greatest sporting moment when he over 400 m and 1500 m freestyle and 200 m butterfly won the title. Also in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games 1958, he was successful: he won gold over 220 yards butterfly and silver over 440 yards freestyle and the 4-by- 220 - yards - season. In the same year he was voted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

In 1960 he won at the Olympic Games in Rome twice in fourth place: over 400 meters freestyle and the 4 x 200 - meter relay.
