Stephen Hopkins (director)

Stephen Hopkins (born 1958 in Jamaica ) is an American director and producer.

He grew up in England and Australia. In his work as a designer for record covers, he met the former director Russell Mulcahy know video clip. Hopkins returned for various Mulcahy video storyboard and set design. When Russell Mulcahy was offered the film Highlander (1986 ) to the Director, Hopkins took over the second unit director on this project. Only a year later, Hopkins resulted in Dangerous Game for the first time to direct myself.

Meanwhile moved to Hollywood in 1989 was followed by A Nightmare on Elm Street 5 - The Dream Child and 1990 as the first major highlight of his career Predator 2 with Danny Glover in the lead role. With Blown Away, an action thriller starring Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones, and The Ghost and the Darkness starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas followed by two more successful large-scale productions. In 1998 he realized a large choir ( William Hurt, Gary Oldman and Heather Graham, with whom he was romantically involved shortly ), the theatrical version of the television series Lost in Space. Despite enormous technical effort the film was not a success and brought a planned sequel was not realized.

As well as his next movie Under Suspicion with Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman flopped, it attracted Hopkins back to television after he staged in 1989 three episodes of the TV series Tales from the Crypt. He directed twelve of the 24 episodes of the first season of the television series 24 Director, which also won leading actor Kiefer Sutherland back out of the woodwork. This was followed by the television series Traffic, based on Steven Soderbergh's film Traffic - power of the cartel, and the series Californication with David Duchovny.

Going to the movies Hopkins returned with the film adaptation of Peter Sellers ' life: The Life and Death of Peter Sellers with Geoffrey Rush. Current projects of the director are The Reaping - The Messengers of the Apocalypse with Hilary Swank and the deep sea thriller Nautica.
