Stephen J. Friedman (producer)

Stephen J. Friedman ( born March 15, 1937 in New York City; † 4 October 1996 in Brentwood, California ) was an American film producer.

Life

Friedman studied at the Wharton School and Harvard University. Initially, he worked as a lawyer for the Federal Trade Commission as well as Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Later acquired the rights to a novel by Larry McMurtry and produced in 1971 with The Last Picture Show his first film. In the 1980s he founded with Kings Road production his own production company.

For the film, For the Love of Molly by Sidney Lumet Friedman wrote only once and also wrote the screenplay.

At the Academy Awards in 1972, he was nominated for Best Picture for The Last Picture Show in the category. The Independent Spirit Awards 1988, he also received a nomination in the category Best Film for the strip The Big Easy - The Big Easy.
