Stephen O'Malley
Stephen O'Malley is an American musician, artist and journalist.
Biography
In the 1990s, O'Malley announced along with Tyler Davis out the Black Metal Magazine Descent from the published 5 issues and also in the industrial bands and musicians were represented; in addition, he also wrote for other publications such as Slayer, Metal Maniacs, Ledo Takas and Seconds. In 1995 he wrote an article called Nordic Darkness ... for the U.S. right rock magazine Resistance of the label Resistance Records, which also advertised the Descent. A 1994 book published by O'Malley in Descent Varg Vikernes Interview with was reprinted in 1996 in the Swedish Nazi rock magazine Nordland. He also worked for Misanthropy Records, among other things, he took over the design and artwork ( with the exception of the cover ) for the album Hlidskjalf of Vikernes ' Burzum project.
1996 he was with the Power Electronics Project Sarin, 1998, he co-founded with Greg Anderson, the label Southern Lord Records to release the music of her former band Thorr 's Hammer and Burning Witch. In 1999 he founded with James Plotkin and Aaron Turner experimental project Lotus Eaters. With Davis O'Malley in charge of the label The Ajna Offensive, appears on the mainly black metal, but also ambient and post-industrial. In addition to the majority apolitical albums also the re-release of the album Blodsband appeared there in 2005 ( Blood Religion Manifest ) of the extreme right band Sigrblot. Asked about Nazism and Burzum, but he stated that he had " never an affinity for Vark Vikernes [ sic] ideology and his racism " had, but " his music and everything around him interesting " found. And while the Black Metal itself and its aesthetics very seriously, he does not do this as a listener.
O'Malley's best-known project is the Drone Doom band Sunn O))), in which he appears alongside Greg Anderson as a guitarist and composer. O'Malley also plays as a bass player in a trio with Keiji Haino and Oren Nazoranai Ambarchi improvised rock.
