Stetsasonic

Stetsasonic was an American hip hop group, formed in 1981 in Brooklyn. They are known as one of the first hip-hop crews, live musicians inserting. Your positive texts and their earlier use of jazz samples made them important forerunners of alternative hip hop and jazz rap.

The six members of Prince Paul, Wise, DBC, Daddy O, Delite and Frukwan were formed initially as the Stetson Brothers, but changed for her debut album On Fire (1986 ) the name to Stetsasonic. The reactions of the critics were mixed, the successor Full Gear (1988) and Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991 ), however, were celebrated in the reviews.

Full Gear contained the two most famous pieces of the group Talkin ' All That Jazz and Sally.

Talkin ' All That Jazz is based on the bass line of the jazz-funk piece expansion ( 1974) by Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes and a sample of the jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd ( 1932-2013 ). In a self-referential way, the text defends precisely this way of creating set pieces from older music something musically new, against the then widespread criticism of samples as " theft ".

Soon after the release of Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991 ) broke up the group. Prince Paul, who had already acquired through the production of their debut album Three Feet High And Rising by De La Soul a very good reputation, began a career as a producer; just as Daddy O who worked for Mary J. Blige and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Frukwan and Prince Paul were both employed by the Gravediggaz.
