Stephen Roger "Steve" Bruce ( born December 31, 1960 in Corbridge ) is a former English footballer and current coach of the English first division side Hull City.

Career

Playing career

The defender started his football career in the summer of 1977 at FC Gillingham. In 1978, Bruce came into the first team and played there until 1984.

In that year he was transferred for a transfer fee of about 125000-135000 pounds to Norwich City. In his debut for the Canaries, he scored an own goal against Liverpool. In 1985, he won his first title with Norwich City, the English League Cup and rose in the same year with the Canaries from. After the immediate resurgence in 1986 and the 1986/87 season he moved to Manchester United in December 1987.

The club paid 800000-825000 pounds for the British. Despite the change to Manchester, he was inducted into the Norwich City Player Hall of Fame in 2002. His debut for the Red Devils gave Bruce on 19 December 1987 against Portsmouth. With them, the defender three times English champions (1993, 1994 and 1996 ) and two English Cup ( 1990, 1994 ), a time English League Cup winner (1991) and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1991. 1991 he was captain of the team and remained so until his move to Birmingham City in 1996.

After two years in Birmingham Steve Bruce could end his playing career in 1998 and 1999 at Sheffield United.

Coaching career

At the end of the 1998/99 season Bruce was already player-manager of Sheffield United. In 1999 and 2000 he was manager of Huddersfield Town. In 2001, Bruce was coach of two teams: Wigan Athletic and Crystal Palace.

Since 2001 he has been manager of Birmingham City, he went down with City in 2006 and abolished in 2007 its chances of promotion.

On 3 June 2009 he signed a new contract at Sunderland AFC. From 2009 to 2011, he led the team known as the Black Cats and always gained placements in the middle of the Premier League. November 30, 2011 Bruce was relieved of his duties because of persistent failure sporting success at Sunderland AFC.

On June 8, 2012, he took over the coaching job with the English second division Hull City and signed a three-year contract.
