Steve Cochran

Steve Cochran (actually Robert Alexander Cochran, born May 25, 1917 in Eureka, California, † June 15, 1965 off the coast of Guatemala ) was an American actor.

Life

Cochran grew up in Wyoming, where his father, a lumberjack, was drawn in the 1920s. After attending the University of Wyoming Cochran played from 1939 found at various theaters, and later on Broadway. His movie debut was in 1945, after he was taken from Samuel Goldwyn under contract. Mostly used in Western and crime films, Cochran was frequently, occasionally set to rogue roles also powerful hands- heroes. The artistically demanding task Cochran turned in The Scream ( 1957) by Michelangelo Antonioni

When his first contract had expired in 1953, Cochran had founded along with friends Robert Alexander Productions. He played from then on as an actor and television roles until his death.

Cochran was married several times, among others, Fay McKenzie.

Death

In June 1965, Cochran died on his yacht off the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Three present on the boat women rounded up with the corpse ten days the open sea, as they could not use it. The boat drifted ashore in Guatemala. This story is retold by Paul Auster in his book, Sunset Park, where two figures are also concerned with the film The Best Years of our lives, in the Cochran played a supporting role.
