Steve James (snooker player)

Steve James ( born 2 May 1961 in Cannock ) is a retired English snooker player.

Career

James 1986 professional snooker player and managed to quickly progress to the advanced world class. He qualified for the finals of the World Snooker Championship in 1988 and managed by two victories, including against former world champion Joe Johnson to the quarter- finals. There he was defeated by Cliff Thorburn another former world champion. The International Open 1988, he made ​​it for the first time in a ranking tournament semi-finals, but it lost to Steve Davis clearly with 1:9.

When Classic 1990, he scored the first and only win of his career in a ranking tournament and improved into the final of the 1989/90 season in 16th place of the Snooker world rankings. A year later, he reached the semi-finals of the 1991 World Series, beating, among others, Stephen Hendry in the quarter-finals.

James held a total of five consecutive years in the Top16 of the world rankings, but then fell back gradually. At the Grand Prix in 1995 he reached the semi-finals once again a major tournament. However, he had increasingly struggled with alcohol problems and fell due to a complex lifestyle in significant financial problems. He missed the end of 2002 to remain on the professional tour after he won no game throughout the season.

He succeeded again in 2004 to return to the tour for two more seasons, 2006, he finally ended his active career.
