Steve Meretzky

Steven Eric Meretzky ( born May 11, 1957 in Yonkers, New York) is an American computer game programmer. He is known as a developer of some of the most popular games of the company Infocom in the 1980s, this outstanding his collaboration with Douglas Adams for the text adventure to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. He is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and was awarded in September 1999 by the magazine PC Gamer as one of twenty-five "Game Gods".

Life

Meretzky was educated at MIT, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and was site manager. But a short time later he was tired of that profession and so he hired in 1981 to Infocom. In 1983 he wrote the highly successful sci-fi adventure Planetfall, by which Douglas Adams became aware of him. The following year the two began work on the text adventure to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which should be one of the best selling games of its time. Other notable games are Infocom Leather Goddesses of Phobos, the award-winning A Mind Forever Voyaging and Zork Zero. In 1994 he left Infocom and founded Boffo Games, where he developed some games, but the company was dissolved after a few years. Then he became a consultant to World Winner. Later he joined Blue Fang Games and worked on the Zoo Tycoon series, which was released by Microsoft for the PC.

Meretzky is a founding member of the Computer Game Developers Association, and is often booked as a speaker at events such as the Game Developers Conference. He played himself in the music video for " It Is Pitch Dark. " By MC Frontalot, a rap song, which cites several text adventures of Meretzky.
